Water Heater RepairWe rely on our water heaters to heat up water for many functions in our home; hot showers, laundry, hand washing, and the dishwasher all need hot water. If you aren’t getting any hot water, you’ll notice pretty quickly, and most likely the water heater is to blame. Water heaters usually last about 8 to 12 years, so if your water heater is still relatively new, you’ll most likely want to look into a water heater repair.

Before you call for a water heater repair, there are a few troubleshooting tips you can try to see if that solves your problems. For an electric water heater, make sure the power is connected and reset the thermostat. Set the thermostat to a higher temperature. If you feel comfortable with simple repairs you can replace the heating element or flush the tank to remove sediment from the bottom. For a gas water heater, make sure that the gas is connected and the pilot light is on. Occasionally, the pilot light will go out and simply needs to be re-lit to restore the water heater’s function. Clean the gas burner and replace the thermocouple. Flush the tank and raise the thermostat setting.

If you try these troubleshooting steps and the water continues to run cold, it’s time to call for a water heater repair. We can come and assess the problem and see what more needs to be done to restore function to your water heater. If your water heater is 10 or more years old, we might recommend getting it replaced completely. At the end of a water heater’s, life the repairs might start to add up, making it more economical to simply start over with a new one than continue to repair a broken one.
