There have been plenty of surveys involving how long people spend in the shower. Most of them agree that about 10 minutes is typical, but there are many factors that can change how long you take in the shower. Some of these are by choice and others are not, but are in your control to change. Here are some things that can skew that 10-minute average:
- Water Conservation – If you are concerned about water conservation, either to help the planet, your budget or because your water comes from a non-cooperative well, you likely spend as little time in the shower as possible. Some even go so far as to take a “Navy shower” – turning off the water during the lathering process.
- Shower Repair – If you hate your shower because you need shower repair and haven’t gotten around to it yet, you may take a significantly quicker shower. While this may not be a bad idea for water conservation, you are denying yourself the enjoyment factor. On the other hand, if you need shower repair because water is being wasted because it is spraying everywhere but where you need it, you now have two reasons to call a plumber sooner rather than later.
- Schedule – People generally take longer showers on the weekend and on Monday mornings. The obvious reasons are there is more time to enjoy it on the weekend and those Monday mornings are hard to face, so procrastinating in the shower is common.
- Multitasking – The surefire way to extend shower time is to be doing something else at the same time. If you are cleaning the shower area, listening and singing to music, or talking to someone else in the room, the time spent can more than double.
